The Future of Central Park

Central Park Aerial

Thirty years ago, Central Park was in total disrepair. Today, thanks to the support of our members, it is now one of the world's most popular tourist destinations and a beloved front yard for New Yorkers. Since 1980 nearly every one of the Park’s 843 acres has been restored by the Central Park Conservancy, creating a public park that welcomes more than 40 million visitors annually.

While the Park has never looked better, it can never be taken for granted: a year-long project requires a lifetime of upkeep! Like every one of you who have given something back to the Park that gives so much, John A. Paulson, a long-time supporter and avid Park user, understands this. Today, he and the Paulson Family Foundation have expressed their love for Central Park with an unprecedented and transformational gift of $100 million.

Mr. Paulson recognizes the importance of sustaining the Conservancy's 33 years of accomplishments. Not only will this gift help the Central Park Conservancy continue park-wide restoration, it will ensure that every improvement we've made is maintained. We'll use this unprecedented gift to launch upgrades in Central Park's 21 playgrounds, perform needed restoration work throughout its 130 acres of woodlands, make improvements to visitor centers, and expand our free public programs.

While Mr. Paulson's extraordinary gift sets us on a course toward a brilliant future, he can't secure Central Park's future alone. He hopes to inspire other New Yorkers to join him in securing the Park as a free-of-charge, green oasis for 8 million New Yorkers and millions more visitors for generations to come.

Our members are still vital to maintaining Central Park. Join us today and know that it's your support that will allow future generations to enjoy the Park as you do. Central Park needs you! You can read more about Mr. Paulson's gift and the work it will support on our website.
